Check out these unique stools made by Jolan van der Wiel, a Dutch designer who apparently likes to illustrate the laws of physics.
“The designer has developed the ‘magnet machine’, whereby he positions magnetic fields above and below a container of polarized material. In order to form and determine the shapes of his furniture pieces, the hanging units are pulled down and then released, in which the substance follows, drawn upwards by magnetic force, letting nature determine the shape of the stool. The material cures within half an hour.”
Above is a detail of one of the stools.
Here is Jolan pouring his magnetic material into a bowl which will be placed between two magnetic forces.
Voila! The forces moving through the material cause it to stretch into this crystalline tubes when separated.
