Magical Feedback

January 16, 2024

Caffeinated Thought of the Week:

There was a study done in which middle-school teachers assigned an essay-writing assignment to their students, after which students were given different types of teacher feedback. One type of feedback improved students effort and performance so much that they labeled it “magical”. The feedback was “I’m giving you these comments because I have very high expectations and I know that you can reach them.”
Why is this so magical? It shows the student:

  1. You are part of this group.
  2. This group is special; we have higher standards here.
  3. I believe you can reach those standards.

Quote of the Week:

“PWe all need people who will give us feedback. That’s how we improve.” - Bill Gates

Reflection of the Week:

Receiving and giving feedback is apart of life its how we grow. Do you think the magic feedback would work for you in your family, workplace, basketball team, community group? Brainstorm, how you can use the magic feedback format in your life?
